Catalogue health is not SMS delivery health

OPEN RAMBO ·

A working price list is a control-plane signal. Delivery quality requires mature order evidence and cannot be inferred from the number of services displayed.

Published by OPEN RAMBO. The engineering patterns and pseudocode illustrate designs, not a documented product API. Numerical examples are illustrative.

Monitor the two layers

Measure catalogue response time and freshness independently from allocation and receipt outcomes. A cached catalogue can stay available during an upstream delivery incident. Mark its age so operators know what the green indicator actually means.

Use service-specific evidence

Track outcomes by service and country rather than one global average. A channel can work for one target and be rejected by another. Low-volume segments should show insufficient data rather than borrowing confidence from unrelated traffic.

Choose honest status labels

Prefer catalogue available, allocation degraded and receipt sample insufficient over a universal operational badge. A status page should say what was observed and when. Avoid translating an upstream marketing score into your own customer success guarantee.

Illustrative implementation

health = {"catalogue":"fresh", "allocation":"observed",
          "receipt_quality":"insufficient_sample"}

Acceptance check

Simulate a fresh catalogue with failed allocations. The product status must not claim end-to-end delivery is healthy.
