ENGINEERING NOTE 42 / 50 · CARD
Handle card closure while refunds are pending
Closing a card does not erase its transaction history or resolve pending financial events. Check the product’s closure and refund handling rules before completing the request.
Published by OPEN RAMBO. The engineering patterns and pseudocode illustrate designs, not a documented product API. Numerical examples are illustrative.
Inventory open items
Identify unsettled authorizations, expected refunds and unresolved loads associated with the card. Present these to the operator or customer in safe terms. Do not assume a zero displayed balance means nothing remains in flight.
Follow documented lifecycle rules
Some systems distinguish freeze from permanent closure. Use the appropriate operation and confirm its result from the processing system. Do not promise that all post-closure refunds will arrive in a particular wallet without documented support.
Retain a read-only trail
Keep the card reference and transaction relationships available for reconciliation after closure. Remove unnecessary sensitive display access while preserving required financial evidence. A historical refund should still be traceable to its original purchase.

Test a late refund after a closure request in an isolated environment. Verify the documented destination and retained audit link.
